Today's widespread rain for a huge area of the Lower Peninsula also comes with some freezing rain and an increased chance for thunderstorms.
A second storm in just three days' time will bring another round of wintry weather across a large swath of the central and eastern US beginning Sunday, with the added risk for strong winds to interrupt travel.

There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow morning. They will not be widespread nor long-lived, but most of the area will see at least some rain. Windy conditions will follow these storms, in association with a cold front. Gusts up to 40mph are possible.

THUNDER BAY -- The city is under a freezing rain warning. According to Environment Canada, intermittent rain is expected on Saturday which could lead to icy and slippery surfaces. The rain is forecast to start on Saturday morning and last into the evening. Light freezing drizzle could precede the heavier rains.
A strong cold front due Sunday will end a stretch of record-breaking warmth and and cause temperatures to plunge to below freezing.
