Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as New York City's new mayor in a historic midnight ceremony at a decommissioned Manhattan subway station.

In a speech following his public swearing-in, Mamdani promoted core campaign promises of universal childcare, affordable rents and free bus service.

Dozens were killed after a fire broke out during a New Year’s celebration at a ski resort in Crans-Montana, the heart of the Swiss Alps.

About 40 people were killed and around 115 others injured in a fire at a New Year’s party in a Swiss ski resort bar, according to police.

The blast ripped through a bar called Le Constellation in the luxury Alpine ski resort town of Crans Montana during New Year's celebrations, Swiss police said early Thursday.
